Bemis, who has more than 20 years of human resources experience, leads the Human Resources and Institutional Equity effort for the university’s more than 17,000 employees.

Scot is responsible for planning, developing and implementing a service-focused HR office that aligns with the university’s mission and goals. He will oversee all aspects of the HR function, including equal employment opportunity; affirmative action; talent management; compensation; labor and employee relations; benefits; staff recognition; leadership and professional development; and other areas.

Scot leads the HRIE team and initiatives to foster a positive, inclusive working environment for all, focused on enhancing our climate, cultivating the employee experience and improving our ability to recruit and retain a diverse workforce in an environment where they can thrive.

Previously, Scot led the HR function for Dartmouth College as the vice president for Human Resources. Before joining Dartmouth, Bemis had served as vice president for human resources at Brandeis University for eight years, 21 years in the U.S. Army, and as deputy director and associate professor of leadership and management at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

A native of Scarborough, Maine, Bemis earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration, magna cum laude, from Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., in 1989 as a first-generation student. He earned a master’s in business administration from the Yale School of Management in 1999.

Bemis and his wife, Brianne, have two children.
